Manon Soetens

Manon Soetens explores the relationship between humans and nature. The people she paints are real: she meets them in everyday life or draws them from memories of her childhood. The figures she depicts are in a state of intense concentration, evoked by beauty, nature, listening to or playing music, art, a child at play… She captures this unique, vulnerable moment. She removes them from their surroundings and places them in a distinctive landscape. These landscapes are inspired by her long-distance walks, mainly in Scotland and England. In this way, a world of stillness emerges, offering a counterspace to our stimulus-rich reality.

Her work invites slow looking. Not to explain, but to feel: what lingers when words disappear?
