ORLANDO GRUWEZ

Orlando Gruwez (1994) is a painter and occasionally a maker of furniture and sculptures. Using old books, encyclopedias, postcards, collected prints, and self-made photographs, he searches for his own visual language. Transience is an important theme throughout his work. He primarily works with oil paint, and in recent years he has increasingly focused on drawing. During secondary school, he followed a program in visual arts, which sparked his interest in art. Afterwards, he completed a full-time wood and furniture program at Goca Gent, an alternative craft school. His connection to and love for wood has never entirely disappeared and is still evident in his work. In higher education, he studied interior design at LUCA School of Arts Gent. By the time he graduated in 2017, he had already been painting for some time. Since then, he has continued painting, producing more and more work. In the meantime, he has participated in various exhibitions, both in group shows and in collaboration with galleries or museums.
